Description of Wordplay
Creative Writing course

Comic Captions Comic Captions activities present a series of cartoon pictures in which students write a dialogue for the characters. This activity provides a prearranged situation and is structured to assist students in developing their imagination. At the end of a Comic Captions activity, students can choose to print the dialogue they have written. Story Completion Story Completion activities let students finish writing mystery or adventure scenarios presented in the activity. Make-a-Thing (Fractal Fun) Make-a-Thing activities help students create an object or picture and then use its attributes as part of a story.

Informative Writing Activities Informative Writing activities provide students with the facts and background information needed to write a report. Activity topics are drawn from science and social studies. Activities for younger students are shorter and less complex than activities for older students. Some activities relate to each other and can be used to enhance a topic of discussion in the classroom. Questions included in the presentation help students focus on story content. Typically, the students are asked to anticipate what is going to happen. The questions are conceptual as well as factual and often draw on the students' general knowledge.
