Comprehension: Critical Reading
Comprehension: Study/Answer Strategy
Literature: Comprehension/Appreciation

Comprehension: Literal/Inferential
(What They Don't Say)
In this type of activity, students must answer a multiple-choice question for each page of a story. The student must draw a conclusion, make a prediction, make an inference, find a cause for an effect, or perform some related inferential task. Students must then justify their answers by selecting key words.
Comprehension: Predicting/Concluding (Picture This) Students learn to test hypotheses. They see a segment of text and four pictures. As more text is added, students must accept or reject each picture as a possible outcome for the story. Students must justify each choice by selecting key words.
Comprehension: Analytical Reading
(Cut It Out)
Students read a story containing material that violates the writer's purpose in a variety of ways. Students must identify and delete the sentences that do not belong.
Comprehension: Critical Reading This type of activity reinforces evaluation skills. Students are required to determine the major premise of a persuasive passage, judge the criteria that must be met in order to prove the premise, and evaluate how well those criteria are met. Students must then answer a summary question.
